Description:

A all text book where Claude Gordon talks about how the whole breathing system works and the different mechanics involved in trumpet playing. In the book he explores the 7 natural elements of playing:

  1. Wind Power
  2. The Toungue
  3. Wind Control
  4. The Lips
  5. The muscles of the lips and face
  6. The fingers of the right hand
  7. The left hand

My Opinion:

Brass Playing is No Harder Than Deep Breathing is 99 percent text book and 1 percent music. The book talks about every aspect of the mechanics of trumpet playing and the mental part of trumpet playing. He covers false information and discusses how to use air to your advantage.

I have probably read this book more then any other book that I have ever read. Every time that I go back to it and re read it I always learn something new, or if I don't learn anything new it helps to refresh my memory about stuff that I should be doing. I have personally learned how to use my air allot better. Learning to use my air has really helped my endurance, tone and has given me a louder sound in the upper register. Not only has this book helped my chops, but on the mental side of trumpet playing it has cleared my head from false information witch has made things allot easier.

This book by far is my favorite all text trumpet book that I have read. The reason I like it so much is because everything he talks about is natural and it isn't anything unusual. Just common sense stuff. Not only does he talk about natural elements but he backs what he says up with facts. Most importantly what separates this book from any other trumpet book is the ability of Claude Gordon to give hope to his students threw words. He makes the reader feel like as if they can accomplish anything no matter what anybody says threw hard work. And to me that is what truly makes the book unique and makes me want to keep going back to it and re read it.

To conclude the review I would recommend the book to any serious trumpet player. It gives hope, results and it tells the truth.
