Book: Systematic Approach to Daily Practice for Trumpet Author: Claude Gordon Publisher: Carl Fischer No. Pages: 127 Purchase @: http://www.claudegordonmusic.com/products.htm |
Description: (Book Description)
A 52 week trumpet course designed to develop a register from the Second C below Low C to C about high C, along with the power, endurance, sound and control necessary to meet the demands required of the professional trumpet player.
My Opinion:
The book starts out with some pages of text. The text pages starts out with talking about how the air lips ext work. Then it also shows what other books you will need with it. The book basically gives you a lesson per week (or per 2 weeks. How ever you want to do them) and each lesson gives you specific instructions on how to do them. The book refers to other books like the Clarke Technical studies and Colin's books.
I worked with the this course for about 1 year and I only got to about lesson 21 or so.The book worked great for me. It did exactly what it claimed. The only exception was that I didn't have the double C range, but the reason for that is probably because I didn't even get half way threw the book. It takes allot of time and patience to complete the course. Although I was only half way threw the book my endurance did go up along with power and range. Even up to today I still use allot of the principals that I picked up from course. The book has deffetnitaly taught me how to practice.
This book is truly a systematic approach to practicing and building up trumpet skills in general. Although the description of the book doesn't say this but besides range you also learn to do things in a musical manner and work on your technical abilities. So the book isn't really just a high note course but it's a course on developing all the necessary skills that it takes to be a successful trumpet player.
In conclusion I only recommend this book to really dedicated and disciplined trumpet students that really want to play trumpet and love it. If you're not disciplined and if you're not going to commit then don't even bother buying the book because you would only be wasting your money. It takes hard work to get threw method but at the end it really pays off.
